Dr. Jenn Carson has been featured on the Today Show, CNN, BBC, NPR, Fox News, and in People magazine for sharing her powerful story of resilience, trauma, and recovery. A behavioral health educator, Jenn earned her bachelor's degree from Baylor University, a master's degree in Counseling from George Washington University, and a Doctor of Social Work from California Baptist University. She is a former crisis line manager, school counselor, Elizabeth Dole Foundation Veteran Caregiver Fellow, former board member of the American Association of Suicidology, and a certified Mental Health First Aid and ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) instructor. From ages five to eight, Jenn lived in hiding with her mother after fleeing her violent father, Michael "Bear" Carson, who was later convicted of multiple serial murders. Today, she openly shares her lived experience with PTSD, depression, and recovery from disordered eating, along with her journey from a suicidal child to a nationally recognized mental health advocate. Through both her professional expertise and personal experience, Jenn inspires audiences with a message of hope, reminding them that recovery is possible, resilience can be cultivated, and our past does not define our future.

Labette Center offers a wide range of courses to provide individuals in our community with the tools to assist a person who is struggling with mental health challenges or is a mental health crisis! Visit our website to find out more about Mental Health First Aid and QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) to sign up for an upcoming course or request a course for an organization or group.
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an interactive public education program. Through the course, individuals are able to learn how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. Labette Center is proud to be able to provide both the adult and youth versions of this course as well as the brand new teen MHFA.
In QPR the general public is educated about the known warning signs of a suicide crisis: expressions of hopelessness, depression, giving away prized possessions, talking of suicide, securing lethal means, and then taught how to respond.
